This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of an implant or dental bridge to replace the missing tooth. Root canals have a bad reputation for being painful, but that is not the case at Metroplex Implants & Family Dentistry. Dr. Wadhwa understands the fear associated with any dental treatment and can offer sedation therapy in combination with nitrous oxide to make it comfortable and pain free experience.
Why would you need a root canal?
At the center of your tooth is the pulp chamber. The pulp houses the nerve and a collection of blood vessels that helps support the surrounding tooth. Infection or inflammation of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or other dental procedures. You’ll know something is wrong either because you can see a visible injury or swelling of the gums near the tooth, or you’ll experience moderate to severe pain. If the tooth pain lasts for more then 10 seconds, wakes you up at night, or pain happens spontaneously you may need a root canal. If you experience any of these symptoms, please call us at to schedule an appointment.
How is a root canal performed?
Dr. Wadhwa uses a non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment.
